This system provides for a zero-spoil approach for contaminated sites and can provide large savings versus piles, caissons, or dig-replace methods.
Geopier Rammed Aggregate Pier® System (RAP’s) Impact® System
The Geopier Impact® system is designed to reinforce good-to-poor-quality soils, including loose sand, soft silt and clay, mixed soil layers, uncontrolled fill, contaminated soils, and soils below the water table by using a patented displacement mandrel. This displacement technique allows for installation without leaving any additional soil on-site and eliminates the need for casings to be used. The Impact system’s performance and cost-effective qualities make it an ideal solution for soils that are prone to cave-ins. The Impact System® can be used for a variety of soil and groundwater conditions, including deep treatment for liquefaction (water build-up), and increases Rammed Aggregate Pier maximum depths to more than 15 m (50 feet). As an added benefit, grouting or cement can be added to improve overall composite stiffness and support. The system provides for a zero-spoil approach for contaminated sites and can provide large savings versus piles, caissons, or dig-replace methods.
How Does GeoSolv Do More with Geopier RAP’s than Other Ground Improvement Techniques?
GeoSolv’s Ground Improvement Systems involve heavy vertical crowd force, massive vertical ramming energy, and significant lateral stress increase. This action, along with the vertical ramming and heavy crowd pressure with lateral cavity expansion with lateral stress build-up, is unique to GeoSolv and creates unsurpassed system performance. These three factors are essential as they result in a more highly engineered system with improved performance over other ground reinforcement approaches. GeoSolv can work with the worst soils: soft clay, loose silt, peat, and uncontrolled fill, not just sandy soils.
GeoSolv offers Ground Improvement Solutions that treat a wider range of soils and offer distinct advantages over other historic ground reinforcement systems such as deep dynamic compaction (dynamic compaction), stone columns (vibro replacement, vibro stone columns), vibro compaction (vibro flot) and deep soil mixing (DSM). Installation Methodology:
The Geopier Impact system is constructed by driving a hollow, valved mandrel into the soil through heavy crowd force and vertical impact energy. Aggregate (clear stone) is placed within the mandrel and flows into the displaced cavity, opening the valve as the mandrel is retracted. The mandrel is then driven back down, closing the valve and creating a compacted lift. Repeated raise and redriving action of the valved mandrel creates stiff rammed aggregate piers and results in superior bearing capacity and settlement control in friction, without the need for bulk excavation or deep foundation (piling) systems.
Improve up to 16m depths with 400mm to 600mm diameter elements for high loads in sands, silt, fill, and trapped topsoil. The Impact system can be installed in high groundwater conditions.
